Chris has deep roots in the Opengate community and brings with him a wealth of valuable experience. His first job supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities was in New York City in 1985. Chris then came to Opengate in 1989, where he worked closely for 12 years with our outgoing CEO Brian Hulten. Chris remembers Brian as a mentor and role model, particularly in areas of individual’s rights and protections.

After working at Opengate as a Classroom Teacher, Sheltered Workshop Manager, and Assistant Residential Director, Chris left Opengate in 2001 but remained in the field. He has spent the last 22 years at another agency, first as the Director of Clinical Services and most recently as the Chief Program Officer, during which time he developed a variety of successful and engaging new programs.

Chris is thrilled to be back at Opengate and says:

“I look at it as a homecoming. It was the first organization to offer me a career opportunity instead of just a job. I’ve maintained a bond with Opengate over the years, volunteering on the Informed Consent Committee and catching up with the individuals I once supported, who I see out in the community from time to time.”
