Terrance Harris wasn’t looking for a career path, but he describes lovely stories about individuals and their daily lives told to him by his mother who was a teacher at Opengate. Through his mother’s stories he found his passion to make a positive impact on the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

As a nation, we expect the very best care for our loved ones, however, those who are trusted to give that care are often invisible and underpaid. Not only agencies who serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities are suffering hardships, but also affected are assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and child care centers who rely on DSPs for qualified care.
According to the BFair2DirectCare recent advocacy report of 2017 data, the turnover and vacancy rate for DSPs is at a crisis level and continues to rise due to funding for a living wage increase.
